Topic: Charitable Giving Story

Teresa Hamilton is the Founder and President of Giving the Basics, a 501C3 that provides human dignity products not covered by Government assistance to food pantries, homeless shelters, battered women’s shelters, prison re-entry programs, and transitional housing.

Giving The Basics started in the Midwest when a small group of people came together to help a family in need. The family was struggling to make ends meet. They were requesting food donations from the local pantry but their basic necessities of life like shampoo, toothpaste, laundry detergent, diapers and toilet paper were not available. These products were not covered by government assistance programs. The family was too embarrassed to ask for these items from other sources, so sadly they went without. The concerned group of people decided something needed to be done. They pooled their resources and agreed to help the family until they were able to help themselves. Giving The Basics was born.

We are going to have a drive for Giving the Basics during our June meeting. So please bring any of the following things to our meeting: All Purpose Cleaner, Combs and Brushes, Cotton balls, Deodorant, Diapers, Dishwashing Liquid, Hand Wipes or Diaper Wipes, Incontinence Pads, Laundry Soap, Lotion, Maxi/Mini Pads/Tampons, Paper Tow-els/Kleenex, Shampoo/Conditioner, Shaving Cream/Razors, Soap – Bar/Body Wash, Toilet Paper, Toothbrushes/Toothpaste, Trash Bags/Ziploc Bags.

The American Business Women’s Association’s mission is to bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others, grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking, support and national recognition.

Meet Kansas City professionals representing a wide range of occupations and entrepreneurial endeavors in this small business networking group.
